Swedish buffets postponed
The Swedish buffets, that were to be opened in the capital’s schools starting September 1, are being postponed. Head of Mayor’s Cabinet Lilian Carp told Info-Prim Neo that the reason is the lack of money, because no corrections were made to the 2012 Municipal Budget.
Lilian Carp mentioned that there is a list of about 20 institutions in which the alimentary system is to be modified. Nevertheless, it all depends on when the municipal councilors will meet to modify the budget, in order to allow for the allocation of the necessary money.
Immediately after the correction of the budget, the authorities may need about a month for installing the necessary constructions and open the Swedish buffets. The City Hall would need around 1 million lei for the 20 institutions, and another 5 million lei for the rest of the institutions.
According to the authorities, the self-service formula is more efficient – the children eat what they want, as much as they want, and, as a result, expenses would fall.
Initially, the new method had been implemented in 6 education institutions, as a pilot project. Starting with autumn, the project was supposed to be extended to all pre-school and pre-university education institutions from the Municipality. The idea to put Swedish buffets in these institutions belongs to Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca, and had been launched after his visit to Sweden.
