Swedish buffet in another 18 Chisinau schools

The Swedish buffet will replace the traditional eateries in another 18 schools in Chisinau. A sum of 1 million lei was budgeted in 2013 for the purpose, IPN reports.

According to Alexandru Fleas, deputy head of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport, 20 Chisinau schools set up Swedish buffets until now. Even if the parents and students welcome such a move, the project cannot be considered fully successful because the equipment in schools is old and there is not enough money to buy other requisites such as automated dish conveying lines. This year, the allocated money will be spent on the serving line, plates and dishes and to replace the old equipment. The costs incurred in the case of Swedish buffets are the same, but the quantity of remains decreased.

Irina Bolgaciuc, principal of “Natalia Gheorghiu” Lyceum, has told IPN that the students adapted themselves to the new system very quickly. “The old equipment is a drawback. We do not have an oven and a fridge to keep the salad. That’s why we serve salad to the students only in winter. We prepare the amount that is eaten at one time,” she stated.

The General Division of Education, Youth and Sport intends to extend the project to other settlements so that half of the education institutions in Moldova implement the Swedish buffet model by 2015.
