The charges against the head of the Chisinau division for chidlren's rights protection Svetlana Chifa were dropped. In a news conference on February 10, Chifa said she found out about this from a letter she received recently from the Prosecutor General's Office. The letter said she had been investigated over three legal cases, but she said she new only about two of them. “The truth triumphed after years of searches, arrests and intimidation,” Svetlana Chifa said, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. She informed that she sued former Prosecutor General Valeriu Gurbulea, who pronounced her guilty even if there was no relevant court decision. Svetlana Chifa's lawyer Viorel Savva said they sought 200,000 lei damages from the the former prosecutor for damaging Chifa's reputation when accusing her of abuse of power in a child adoption case. “This case was a 'buffoonery' organized by the former administration of the Prosecutor's Office. We do not know yet why two more legal cases were opened against Svetlana Chifa, but the truth will come out,” the lawyer said. According to Viorel Savva, Valeriu Gurbulea is expected to go to the Buiucani District Court on March 23, at 12.00. Svetlana Chifa was put under arrest for 72 hours on January 13, 2009 and then under house arrest for 30 days. When the term expired, the Centru District Court banned her from leaving the country. The examination of the case was postponed until April 5, but there was no trial.
