Suspicion of mass poisoning at children’s camp in Taraclia

About 30 children aged between 7 and 14 last weekend were admitted to the Taraclia District Hospital with presumed poisoning. The children were resting at a camp in Taraclia. The camp was closed for disinfection and for establishing all the circumstances of the incident, IPN reports.

Specialists of the National Food Safety Agency travelled to the scene and determined that the first children came to the camp on June 20. The first symptoms in three children appeared on the night of June 23. In the afternoon of the next day, 18 more children complained about pain typical of poisoning.

According to the Agency, it was established that the cooking facilities, storehouses and technological processes met the legal requirements. The thermal regime for keeping the food products was respected. All the products were accompanied by sanitary-veterinary certificates and quality and safety certificates. Samples of food, raw material, fruit, vegetables and water were taken for laboratory examinations.

The Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection said the children’s state is medium and light grave. It was determined that the camp didn’t have a sanitary authorization for functioning because the water didn’t meet the microbiological indicators and appropriate hygiene conditions weren’t ensured there. Also, not all the employees underwent the prophylactic medical examination.
