The new president of FC Costuleni Andrei Grigor announced that he decided to withdraw the club from the championship. The team continues yet to train and hope to play against Sheriff this Saturday, IPN reports.
“We sent a letter to the Moldovan Football Federation by which we announced that we decided to withdraw from the National Division. We took this decision because the team has no chances to qualify for the European cups,” Andrei Grigor told a news conference.
The Moldovan Football Federation hasn’t yet pronounced on this decision. Under the competition regulations, a team that does not present itself at two matches is relegated to Division B.
“We are still involved in Moldova’s Cup. Why don’t we have chances to qualify for the European cups? This situation looks strange to me,” FC Costuleni coach Laurentiu Tudor has told IPN.
On November 18, the team trained without the Romanian coach. The players hope to continue competing in the National Division. In the championship, FC Costuleni ranks eighth with 11 points. If it withdraws, all the teams from the National Division will lose the points scored in the matches played against FC Costuleni.
