Survey: PCRM – 24.6%; PLDM – 22%; PDM – 11.2%, PL – 9.1%

The same four parties would enter Parliament if legislative elections were held in Moldova, shows the Public Opinion Barometer (BOP) that was presented on November 20. According to the survey, 24.6% of the respondents would vote for the PCRM, 22% for the PLDM, 11.2% for the PDM, while 9.1% for the PL, Info-Prim Neo reports. Director of the Public Policy Institute Arcadie Barbarosie said that compared with the survey carried out in May, the PCRM’s rating decreased by 3%, while the PL’s rating by 4%. The PLDM and PDM have by 3% more supporters than in May. The undecided voters represented 20.9% of the respondents. Among the political personalities, the leader of the PLDM, Prime Minister Vlad Filat enjoys the greatest confidence – of 19.4% of those surveyed. The Premier has a relatively constant score in the last surveys. He is followed by the leader of the PCRM Vladimir Voronin with 17%, the Head of Parliament and chairman of the PDM Marian Lupu with 8.1%, and Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca with 7.1%. The director of the Association for Participatory Democracy ADEPT Igor Botan said that some of the respondents have more confidence in a political leader, but vote for another one who already held a certain post. As regards the parties, the PLDM is trusted by 40% of those polled, the PCRM by 32%, the PL by 31%, while the PDM by 27%. Viorel Cibotaru, director of the European Institute for Political Studies, said that the changes indicated by the current survey, compared with the surveys of 2011 and May 2012, are related to the major political events that took place in Moldova. As to the attitudes towards the political parties, they are seasonal. “The Communist Party lost a part of the total support that it enjoyed for a number of years, while the parties of the ruling alliance gained support. This is probably due to the political season rather than to trends that can be named significant,” he stated. The poll shows that the people’s confidence in the main institutions of the state decreased significantly. 23% of the respondents trust the Government, as against 30% in May, 20% - the Presidential Office, as opposed to 28% in May, 19% - the Parliament, down from 25% in May. The Public Opinion Barometer was commissioned by the Public Policy Institute. It was conducted between October 30 and November 12 and covered a sample of 1,237 persons. The margin of sampling error was ±2.8%.
