A tumor weighing about 15 kg was successfully removed by surgeons of the National Clinical Hospital “Timofei Moșneaga”. The patient is a man aged 54. He said he experienced discomfort in the abdomen and, after a series of checkups at a hospital in Bălți, he was referred to the National Clinical Hospital.

Sergiu Ungureanu, head of the Surgery Department, said the patient was asymptomatic for a period. Such tumors can grow very large. This one was over 40 cm wide and weighed over 15 kg. The tumor was fully removed together with the spleen.

The patient noted he went to see a doctor late as he feared he would become infected with COVID-19. After surgery, he feels well.
