President Nicolae Timofti signed a decree by which the new composition of the Supreme Security Council is confirmed. Nicolae Timofti, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, remains the Council’s chairman, while Alexei Barbaneagra, the President’s adviser on defense and national security, is the Council’s secretary, IPN reports.
According to the presidential press service, the Council consists of 15 persons, including Head of Parliament Andrian Candu, Prime Minister Pavel Filip, head of the Parliament’s commission on national security, defense and public order Veaceslav Untila, director of the National Anticorruption Center Viorel Chetraru, director of the Security and Intelligence Service Mihai Balan, Minister of the Interior Alexandru Jizdan, Prosecutor General Corneliu Gurin and Minister of Defense Anatolie Salaru.
The other members are: president of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova Gheorghe Duca, Minister of Finance Octavian Armasu, Minister of Economy Octavian Calmac, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Andrei Galbur, the leaders of the parliamentary groups of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu and the Democratic Party Marian Lupu, and secretary general of the President’s staff Ion Paduraru.
The Supreme Security Council is a consultative body that analyses the activity of the ministries and departments in the area of national security and presents recommendations about the internal and external policy of the state to the President of Moldova.
