Supreme Court rejects Shor’s appeal against fugitive-from-justice ruling

The Supreme Court of Justice today upheld the ruling of the Cahul Court of Appeals declaring Ilan Shor a fugitive from justice.

Addressing a crowd of supporters outside the Supreme Court, Shor Party vice president Marina Tauber declared today’s decision was a sign that “dictatorship is setting in in Moldova” and that the party would complain to international organizations.

“We are not scared. Let me assure you that we will continue fighting and will not surrender until we see justice triumph,” stated Marin Tauber.

Ilan Shor addressed the crowd via a video call. “Today’s decision of the CSJ judges came on the orders of, and following direct pressure from Prime Minister Maia Sandu and President Igor Dodon,” said Shor from an unknown location.

“Until recently we have successfully implemented a number of social and infrastructure projects. But now we have people in government that don’t know anything about how to rule a country”, went on Shor.

In June 2017, Ilan Shor was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison for his role in the $1B bank fraud. The sentence was challenged in the Appeals Court and Shor, yet a final ruling has not been issued to date. About a month ago Ilan Shor reportedly sneaked out of the country in breach of his bail conditions. Exiting the country bypassing border and customs formalities is itself a criminal offense for which Shor faces a hefty fine or up to 2 years in prison.
