Supreme Court of Justice upholds decision to not validate elections

The Supreme Court of Justice upheld the Chisinau Appeals Court’s decision to not validate the election of Andrei Nastase as mayor of Chisinau. The hearing started in the afternoon of June 25 and lasted until late evening. In the period, sympathizers of mayor-elect Andrei Nastase demanded that the Court should validate the June 3 Chisinau mayoral election results in front of the building of the Supreme Court of Justice and made accusations of usurpation of power against the government, IPN reports.

Andrei Nastase said before the protesters that today democracy has no chance in the Republic of Moldova. The Democratic leader Vlad Plahotniuc reached a new record in Moldova: he killed democracy in the state. By the decision to invalidate the elections, a serious blow was given to the people. From now on, the Republic of Moldova will be known in the world not only owing to the US$ 1 billion banking fraud, but also to the stealing of the vote cast by the inhabitants of Chisinau. Nevertheless, nothing is yet lost. There were countries that experienced bloody dictatorships, but resisted.

Historian Octavian Ticu said the government  had the chance to show democracy still exists in Moldova by validating the election of Andrei Nastase, but this didn’t happen.

The leader of the Party “Action and Solidarity” Maia Sandu said Vlad Plahotniuc clearly showed that he is the dictator in Moldova and what the people want does not matter for him. “We cannot accept this. It will be hard, but we cannot give up. We must take things seriously and constitute a national resistance committee. We do not accept dictatorship. A new protest will be mounted in front of the Chisinau City Hall starting at 07:30am and we will decide there what we should do further,” stated the politician.

The protesters blocked for a period the section of Petru Rares St from the Academy of Economic Studies, where the Supreme Court of Justice is situated, up to Constantin Tanase St and the trolleybuses could not travel in the area. There was a larger number of police officers who maintained public order.
