Supreme Council of Magistrates postpones examining complains against judges who tried young people at police stations, Update

[Update] The Supreme Council of Magistrates put off examining the legal cases opened against nine judges who tried cases at police stations in April 2009 or committed violations when judging them. The hearing was to start at 10.00 on April 20, but was postponed as Minister of Justice Alexandru Tanase, who is a member of the Council, is on a trip to Cahul, Info-Prim Neo reports. [Update] The complaints against the nine judges will be examined by the Supreme Council of Magistrates on Monday, April 26, stating at 14.00. Earlier in April, the Ministry of Justice was informed by the Moldova Institute for Human Rights and the Association “Promo-Lex” about nine judges who tried cases and imposed penalties at police stations in Chisinau on April 8, 9 and 10, 2009, which is against the law. The challenge to the Supreme Council of Magistrates says that [Mihail Diaconu], of the Buiucani district court, tried cases against at least 18 persons at the police commissariat of Buiucani. [Igor Vornicescu], of the Rascani district court, issued arrest warrants in 38 of the 41 cases examined at the police commissariat of Rascani. [Oleg Meliniciuc], vice president of the Rascani district court, tried cases at the police commissariat of Rascani on April 8, 2009 and imposed penalties on at least eight persons. [Gheorghe Morozan], of the Rascani district court, on April 10, 2009 issued arrest warrants for at least 10 persons after trying cases at the local police station. [Igor Manascurta], of the Ciocana district court, after examining cases at the police station of Ciocana on April 9 and 10, 2009 placed a young man under arrest for ten days and another one aged 17 for 30 days and imposed a fine of 100 lei on a minor also aged 17. [Ion Bulhac], of the Ciocana district court, on April 10, 2009 issued an arrest warrant for four days for a man, ignoring the fact that he was arrested inside the police station. [Ala Malai], of the Ciocana district court, placed a young man under arrest for ten days, ignoring that he had visible bodily injuries, while [Ludmila Cernei], of the same court, condemned two persons disregarding the fact that one of them was inured, while the other one was arrested illegally. The ninth judge whose acts will be examined by the Supreme Court of Justice is [Anatolie Galben], of the Rascani district court.
