Supreme Council of Magistrates allows additionally investigating former judge

A former judge of the Rascani District Court of Chisinau, who is investigated for fraudulently handling civil lawsuits, will be investigated on new charges. The prosecutor general received the Supreme Council of Magistrates’ consent to additionally investigating the former judge, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the former judge is suspected of intentionally passing illegal decisions and judgments, falsifying public documents and of abusing his position.

In 2012-2014, the judge, in concert with employees of the Rascani District Court and other jurists, illegally intervened in civil lawsuits and replaced summons, modifying the object of the litigation or issuing decisions in the absence of civil proceedings and avoiding the random case distribution procedure. He also illegally accepted and unilaterally examined different civil complaints and pronounced judgments on them.

So far the prosecutors identified 20 civil cases whose electronic registration numbers were illegally used by the judge when drawing up clone files. Most of these civil cases were based on claims over large sums of money, of millions of lei, or over facilities belonging to the local public authorities.
