Supporters of Victor Ponta will try to rig elections in Moldova, statements

The supporters of the Social Democratic Party’s candidate for the presidency of Romania Victor Ponta will make effort to rig the November 16 elections, representatives of the Christian Liberal Alliance (ACL) said in a news conference at IPN. They called on the Romanian citizens from Moldova to vote for Klaus Iohannis, who is, according to them, an honest and competent candidate who will be a model President for all the Romanians, regardless of their location.

“Regretfully, the Social Democratic Party is trying to rig the elections where it is possible. It happened in several places in Romania. We do not want buses with voters to appear in Chisinau overnight, who would want to cast their ballots both in Moldova and in Romania, forcing thus multiple voting,” said former Premier of Romania Mihai Razvan Ungureanu, who is the first deputy president of the ACL.

Mihai Turcanu, regional secretary of the ACL for Moldova from over the Prut, said the PSD and Victor Ponta intentionally maintain poverty in the region so as to manipulate the voters and buy votes by electoral presents.

“It is painful that they have recently tried to transfer all kinds of electoral attitudes and behaviors from Romania: giving €20-30 to people to vote for a candidate, transporting the people to polling places as sheep in minibuses, telling lies on Moldovan TV channels, saying that all the good things started in Moldova with a certain personage,” said ACL senator Viorel Badea. According to him, in Floresti a number of persons forced some of the people to vote for Victor Ponta.

Viorel Badea announced that a new tactic of the PSD for blocking the vote in the diaspora is not to send representatives to the polling places.

ACL deputy secretary general Marian Zlotea said the PSD intentionally sabotages the vote in the diaspora because they are afraid to lose the elections. Another method used by the supporters of Victor Ponta is infiltrating groups of 10-14 supporters before the queues to slow down the voting process.

Marian Zlotea also said that the ACL will send teams to monitor voting at each polling place. Also, some of the members of the ACL will distribute own responsibility statements that must be filled out by the Romanian citizens from abroad in front of polling places so as to hasten voting. Zlotea called on the Moldovan NGOs to take part in these activities so as to ensure the smooth running of the second round of voting at the 21 polling places in Moldova.
