Support service for families in difficulty

The creation of a support service for families in need is envisioned in a draft decision that is to be examined by the Chisinau Municipal Council. The entitled families will benefit from expert counseling and from financial support for overcoming the difficulties and preventing the separation from children.

Natalia Terteac, senior specialist at the Chisinau Child Rights Protection Division, has told IPN that the service consists of two parts. Within the counseling stage, the specialists will identify together with the families the problems they face and will draw up a plan of action for overcoming them.

The second, financial part is intended for families facing an increased risk of abandonment and those that want to reintegrate the children into the family. The specialists will identify their problems, like for example the absence of documents or of basic necessities, and will make effort to solve them. On average, one family will receive about 3,000 lei. The use of the money will be strictly monitored.

Currently, there are over 4,000 families in difficulty, but not in all the cases the risk of abandonment is high. It was planned that 20 socially deprived families will be supported in 2015. The number of beneficiaries will be gradually increased.
