As many as 42 persons employed last year through the agency of the branches of the National Employment Agency will provide support to persons with disabilities who are looking for a job. The number of these specialists will be doubled this year, Info-Prim Neo reports. Ludmila Malcoci, executive director of the public association Keystone Moldova, said that 84 support specialists will work in the country’s districts in 2013, but this does not mean that the labor market is open to persons with disabilities. “We had to work a lot with entrepreneurs so that they understood that a person with disabilities can work with support or without. We intend to create a service called “Employment support service”. We will develop regulations and standards for implementing this service so that it is approved at state level,” said Ludmila Malcoci. Some of the persons with disabilities can need support in work only during the first two weeks or a month, until they adjust themselves, but there are persons who will need assistance throughout their life. “Another aspect is the necessity of investments in adjusting the workplaces, especially in the case of persons with physical disabilities. Furthermore, the legislation should be reviewed. Our legal framework may be good for encouraging the employment of disabled persons, but the problem is that the implementation of the legislation is not supervised,” stated Ludmila Malcoci. About 8,800 persons with severe disabilities, including 2,000 children younger than 18 and approximately 2,200 persons with severe disabilities from childhood, are in need of permanent care in Moldova.
