Supervisory Board of MCF approves anti-fraud and anti-corruption policy

The Supervisory Board of the Millennium Challenge Fund (MCF) Moldova approved the fraud and corruption risks prevention and combating policy that will be used throughout the implementation of the Compact Program financed by the Millennium Challenge Corporation, IPN reports.

In a communiqué, the Government says that according to this policy, the MCF Moldova is obliged to work out additional prevention and vigilance enhancement measures during the implementation of the Compact and to report any suspicion of fraud and corruption. The Board members approved of the anti-fraud mechanism used by the MCF Moldova.

Prime Minister Iurie Leanca instructed the Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure to design an anti-fraud and anti-corruption plan of action for the road infrastructure projects, based on the experience developed within the Compact. This mechanism can be later used in other areas to ensure transparency and efficiency in the use of money coming from foreign assistance and the public budget.

Another aspect to which the Premier referred was the engagement of the Moldovan people in road infrastructure rehabilitation projects. Iurie Leanca asked maximally involving the local labor fore and organizing training in order to improve qualification.

Contracts have been so far signed for the reconstruction and modernization of the irrigation systems on the Nistru in Criuleni and Lopatna, while for the rehabilitation of the irrigation systems in Jora de Jos, Cosnita, Puhaceni and Roscani there was opened an international acquisition contest. A contest will be announced at the start of July to select the companies that will rehabilitate the irrigation systems on the Prut in Grozesti, Blindesti, and Leova.
