The Supervisory Board (SB) has failed on Wednesday, March 28, to appoint the director of the “Teleradio-Moldova” Company and the managers of the national TV and radio stations, after a number of SB members and candidates for the offices claimed breaches of the Audiovisual Code as regards the competition requirements. The SB interviewed all the applicants on Tuesday, and the appointment was expected to be made by voting the following day. From the very start of the voting process SB member Veaceslav Ionita disputed its legality, saying that Igor Munteanu, another SB member, was not announced about the meeting of the Board. Anatol Dubrovschi, SB Secretary, said in turn that Munteanu was on a trip abroad. Following the interview with the seven candidates, a number of them disputed the way in which the competition had been held, as well as its transparency. Several SB members, including Ionita and Munteanu (who came to attend the meeting after all), backed the candidates’ concern. They referred especially to the fact the Code was not observed, according to which the list of applicants, the applicants’ CVs, as well as their proposed conceptions of company development should have been made public. Munteanu underlined that several SB members did not receive the Board’s Regulations, blaming the secretary for that. He also said he was announced not sooner than on Tuesday morning, while in Berlin, that he had to join the meeting that day. In response, Dubrovschi accused several members of having other purposes than work when they take part in the Board’s meetings. Besides, he said, Munteanu is always busy and unavailable. Afterward, SB members exchanged retorts, including affirmations about “the obscure circumstances of the SB chair’s and secretary’s appointment”, while Ionita stated that he would propose the appointment of another chairman. During the debate, a number of members suggested to postpone the voting, a fact which displeased the others. The applicants were also split on the issue. Some of them wanted the voting to happen that day, while the others pleaded for postponement. Finally, it was decided to put off the voting, and in the meantime, SB is to publish the required information and adopt the final version of the Board’s Regulations. 11 persons applied for the Company Director, 6 for the manager of the national TV station, and 5 for the manager of the radio station, with one applicant subsequently withdrawing from competition.
