The persons who work in the open air must have a regulated work program during dog days, drink liquids and have rests at short intervals. The recommendations were made by specialists of the Public Health Center. The National Confederation of Trade Unions of Moldova called on the economic entities to protect the employees during the hot days by implementing the measures stipulated by the legislation.

Contacted by IPN, university lecturer Nicolae Opopol, a correspondent member of the Academy of Sciences and scientific researcher at the Public Health Center, said the workers who are directly exposed to sunlight must take breaks of 10-15 minutes every one hour and a half. The conditions in which the workers rest are very important. The temperature in the recreational rooms must not exceed 25 degrees Celsius. The persons must drink 2-3 liters of water daily.

According to a communiqué from the National Confederation of Trade Unions, the national legislation obliges the employers, when the temperatures exceed 30 degrees Celsius, to reduce the intensity and pace of physical activity, to ensure ventilation at the workplace, to alternate the dynamic effort with the static one and to set periods of rest. They employees must be offered by 2-4 liters of saline or mineral water per person and provided with individual protection equipment and showers. The employers who cannot ensure such conditions can reduce the work program during the dog days.

The Confederation calls on the competent bodies to carry out inspections and other measures to identify and punish the employers who do not obey the law. The employees who face such situations can inform the Confederation on the hotline (0 22) 23 40 90.

The people can also inform the State Labor Inspectorate about such cases on (0 22) 49 94 00. Under the legislation, the employers who do not take protection measures during the dog days are punished with fines of 1,600 to 10,000 lei.
