“It was a pleasant meeting and we hope it will be efficient too,” chairman of the Writers Union Arcadie Suceveanu said after a meeting of Prime Minister designate Valeriu Strelet and people of culture, IPN reports.
“We spoke about very categorical thinks, in a trenchant way. I told the Premier designate that he is practically the last hope of the people of culture as regards the remedying of the situation in Moldova because he comes to direct a ship that has been drifting for a period. This ship, which is our society, must be immediately brought back to the waterline,” stated Arcadie Suceveanu.
As to culture, Suceveanu noted that it remains a ‘Cinderella’ in society and those who are in power should divert more attention to this field. In the meeting, it was established that a proposal to increase the budget allocations for culture will be submitted.
Valeriu Strelet said increased attention should be paid to the field of culture because the country is going also through a moral, spiritual crisis besides the economic and social crisis, which must be overcome with the assistance of the people of culture.
“We discussed the whole set of problems faced in the area of culture, which are covered by the government program. To my surprise, there were also raised problems from other fields, which concern the general situation in the country and the economy, namely how it develops and why sufficient money is not accumulated, including for culture. It was a good discussion and we agreed to meet more often,” stated Strelet.
Later today, July 29, Valeriu Strelet will also have meetings with civil society and the business community. Yesterday he met with representatives of the Democratic Party, the Liberal Party, employers, trade unions and the academic community.
