The suburban settlements of Chisinau municipality will secure Dorin Chirtoaca’s victory in the mayoral elections, experts invitees to a special edition of the talk show “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1 anticipated, IPN reports.

Executive director of the Center for Strategic Analysis and Political Consultancy “Politicon” Anatol Taranu said judging by the preliminary results, Dorin Chirtoaca won the elections. “Analysts said that if the voter turnout is at least 50%, Dorin Chirtoaca will win. Now the results show that even if the voter turnout is slightly over 48%, Dorin Chirtoaca will anyway emerge victorious. This result includes the results from the suburban settlements where the people usually vote for Chirtoaca,” he stated.

Historian Octavian Ticu is convinced that Chirtoaca won the elections. “The mathematics of elections in Chisinau is different from that in the rest of the country. The voters in Chisinau are more elevated and have a different political culture. I think Dorin Chirtoaca won the elections in Chisinau, if we take also into account the results from the suburbs,” he said.

Expert of the Institute for Development and Social Initiative “Viitorul” Cornel Ciurea also considers that the suburban settlements voted for Chirtoaca. “As a true-born resident of Chisinau, I think it’s not right for the suburban settlements to choose our mayor. But it is the problem of the left, which didn’t manage to change the situation,” he stated.
