Suburban school could be closed
The public school no.100 in Chisinau’s suburban town of Bacioi runs the risk of being closed, if its faulty heating system is not repaired in due time. Since the children returned to school from their winter vacation on January 9, they have been enduring temperatures around 10 degrees C in their classrooms.
As Bacioi Mayor Ion Bivol told Info-Prim Neo, troubleshooters will try to fix the two steam boilers of the school by installing silver electrodes, and if it doesn’t help, the school will be closed for children starting next Monday.
Bivol said the 125,000 lei fee requested by the company that delivered the boilers to substitute the melted parts is an unaffordable expense for the Bacioi Town Hall, adding that the city construction department, which ordered the boilers, should take the burden off the back of the Bacioi authorities.
According to the mayor, while the three parties involved – the dealer, the installer, and the city construction department – are playing the blame game, the children are freezing in their classrooms.
At the same time, Vasile Panfil, head of the construction department, said the town hall is obliged to handle the expenses, as the school is managed by the town and not the city authorities. Panfil claims that the breakdown was caused by maintenance staff negligence.
