A study was launched in Moldova to determine the incidence of COVID-19 and viral hepatitis. As many as 6,000 persons of different ages will be tested for presence of antibodies in the body. The research will cover 79 medical institutions, IPN reports, quoting an informative bulletin of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection.
The persons will sign an agreement of participation and will have samples of venous blood taken from them for obtaining exact data.
The results of the study will determine the real incidence of the COVID-19 and viral hepatitis B and C. The study will be coordinated at the national level by a team of the National Public Health Agency. In each district and municipality, an assigned epidemiologist will work as a coordinator, while in each primary medical institution, this role will be played by a family doctor or a medical assistant.
The lab examinations will be carried out at the reference laboratory of the National Public Health Agency. The information about the spread of infections will help identify solutions and public health measures in the control and prevention of COVID-19 and viral hepatitis. The project is implemented with the assistance of the World Health Organization and the Robert Koch Institute of Germany.
