The study of pathological processes becomes more accessible to students of “Nicolae Testemițanu” State University of Medicine and Pharmacy (USMF) together with the inauguration of the digital pathology laboratory. Thanks to the assistance offered by the Department for Relations with the Republic of Moldova of the Romanian Government, the laboratory was equipped with a system for diagnosing and analyzing macroscopic images for 100 users, which, according to young resident doctors, significantly improves educational process, IPN reports.

Assistant professor Mihaela Cozma, a resident doctor, said that the software enables to analyze histological samples that can be viewed at different sizes. Until now, students examined slides exclusively under a microscope, and there was a need to increase the number of microscopes so that each student could examine their blade. Respectively, a space for the lamoteque was needed. With the inauguration of the digital lab, all these necessities disappear because there is the scanner that allows students to examine slides at the computer.

The University’s rector Emil Ceban, said the donation includes a system for diagnosing and analyzing images for 100 users, with 15 diagnostic units, as well as a system for recording investigations. It is a modern equipment indispensable for advancing medical research, increasing the quality of the diagnosis process and efficient treatment. Thanks to this donation, but also to the scanner delivered in November, young researchers will better understand the mechanisms underlying pathological disorders.

“We tried last year to put great emphasis on education. Practically, a large percentage of the budget we had last year was brought to support education in the Republic of Moldova, both in the pre-university environment and especially in the university environment. We cooperated with seven universities in Chisinau, the State University of Medicine and Pharmacy being one of them. And we are glad that USMF is our partner, that we can support them because, as I said at the end of last year, students, researchers and teachers of USMF not only learn, but they are also those who save and will save lives,” said State Secretary of the Department for Relations with the Republic of Moldova of the Romanian Government Adrian Dupu.

The value of the donated goods is almost 500,000 Romanian lei.
