The students who got remarkable results at international and regional Olympiads in the subjects of study and their teachers were awarded at the Olympics Gala 2016, which was staged by the Ministry of Education on December 19, IPN reports.
In 2016, the Olympic squad represented Moldova at international and regional Olympiads in 11 countries. The students returned home with 33 medals. Most of these were won by students of the Chisinau Theoretical Lyceum “Orizont”.
In the award ceremony, Minister of Education Corina Fusu said the results achieved by these students show the quality of education Moldova is not worse than in other states. “The Ministry of Education encourages the competitive spirit of the young people because the formation of a modern level of culture and education and the development of the individual intellectual abilities are important. The victories scored by our children make us be optimistic,” stated the minister.
Vice director of the “Orizont” branch in Durlesti Elena Ciuhrii said the institution’s students won 26 medals and this is the result of the assiduous work done by everyone – the family, teacher, lyceum, student. “We are proud to work with such talented, very interesting students. They motivate and stimulate us, the teachers, as we are satisfied when our pupils surpass us,” she stated.
Among the awardees were students of the lyceums “Mihai Viteazul”, “Mihail Kogalniceanu”, “Prometeu Prim”, “George Calinescu”, “Gheorghe Asachi”, “Petru Movila” of Chisinau and “Mihai Eminescu” of Balti. The prizes provided by the Ministry of Education for the Olympics Gala came to 645,000 lei.
