Students will use old History books for now
The students will use the History books from previous years, for now, although the discipline’s name had been changed at the order of ex-Minister of Education Mihail Sleahtitchi. “The book title is not important, the curriculum did not change”, Ministry of Education’s (ME) Special Textbook Fund director Gheorghe Girnet told Info-Prim Neo.
The Ministry of Education will organize a public tender on the price offer for 9th grade and 12th grade History textbooks. According to Gheorghe Girnet, education institutions have very many History books, but the institutions teaching in Russian have fewer books.
On March 7, Mihai Sleahtitchi signed an order that stipulated the renaming of the “History” discipline into “Romanian and Universal History”. All of this after in autumn 2011 the same Ministry had announced that disciplines “Romanian History” and “Universal History” would be merged into one “History” subject, according to an order from 2010.
The Minister of Education explained that the change was necessary in order to reflect the subject’s name and structure, and the decision had been taken in accordance with recommendations for the Historian community and country’s didactic staff.
