Students will represent at least 1/5 of members of university executive bodies
The MPs Friday adopted amendments concerning the representation of students in the executive bodies of universities to the Law on Education, introducing a guaranteed student quota of minimum 1/5 of the members of these bodies, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Until now, the law stipulated only the highest limit of student representation, which was 1/4 of the members of the university’s senate and administration board and the faculty board. As there was no minimum guaranteed quota, the number of students in these bodies was decided by the institution’s administration, which was usually symbolic.
The lawmakers argued the inclusion of the minimum quota of 1/5 will represent a guarantee that the students will be represented in the higher education institutions where they study.
