Students will be familiarized with EU institutions and their values

Students from over 1,200 education institutions of Moldova will be informed about the institutions, mission and values of the European Union within the project “Promotion of the European Union in the schools of the Republic of Moldova”, launched by the National Youth Council of Moldova in a news conference at IPN. The project is supported financially by FHI 360, with 1 million lei, and is to be implemented in all the districts of the county. It is also supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sport, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.

The Council’s head Doru Curosu said that the European future for Moldova is of major importance. “The Council aims to bring the necessary knowledge and information closer to the students so as to familiarize them with the opportunities, benefits and values of the EU,” he stated.

Coordinator of the Council’s Youth Policy Division Galina Petcu said that within the project, the Education Center “Pro Didactica” has worked out the Teachers’ Guide on the organization of the social-educative activities for promoting the EU in the Moldovan schools. Based on it, training seminars for local coordinators responsible for the implementation of the project at district level will be held on January 22 and January 23. These will familiarize the directors on education from the schools taking part in the project with the activities that will be carried out at the next stages.

Activities to familiarize the students with the basic notions concerning the EU will be performed during three weeks, between March 9 and March 27. At the end of the project, in May, the participating schools will host a series of EU fairs. Each institution separately will decide the own program of these events.

Deputy Minister of Youth and Sport Sergiu Stanciu noted that this project will be useful to students. “We have the duty and obligation to talk to the people, especially the youth, so as to acquaint them with the EU values. They speak a lot about these values, but not enough,” he stated. The representative of the Ministry of Education Corina Lungu underlined that the EU values should be promoted.

The process of promoting the EU among the youth will involve employees of youth-friendly centers. Public service providers together with youth specialists will stage informal and festive activities in their communities.

The National Youth Council of Moldova promotes the interests of the Moldovan youth and contributes to the development of associated youth organizations by implementing training, information, lobbying and counseling programs and activities.
