Student scholarships will be raised by 5% as of January 1, 2018. A decision to this effect was taken by the Cabinet on April 25, IPN reports.

The scholarships will be increased for students in technical vocational education, for those studying for their bachelor’s, master’s, doctor’s and post doctor’s degrees and for secondary clinical doctors and residents. Thus, the students that received a scholarship of 800 lei until now will get 840 lei, while the scholarship for students in post-secondary technical vocational education will rise from 630 to 660 lei.

Also, the first-year doctoral students who had a scholarship of 1,050 lei will receive 1,100 lei, similar to the first-year residents. The Scholarship of the Republic will rise from 1,385 to 1,455 lei, while the Government’s Scholarship from 1,155 to 1,210 lei.

The authorities said the decision is aimed at contributing to increasing the attractiveness and competitiveness of higher and technical vocational education institutions and to strengthening the professional education system in Moldova.
