The Government in October will launch a national program to provide the students with fresh fruit with the assistance of national producers, Deputy Prime Minister Octavian Calmac, Minister of Economy and Infrastructure, announced.
According to the Ministry of Economy, to which IPN makes reference, the program will cover the first-ninth graders of all the pre-university education institutions of the country, including the private ones. “At the first stage, we will supply only apples, but will later make sure that the students are offered also other seasonal fruits,” stated Octavian Calmac.
The fruit will be purchased from national producers as a result of a phytosanitary test.
It is estimated that 1,700 tonnes of apples are needed to daily provide the students with this fruit by the end of this year.
