Access to information about ecology must rise by 50% by 2023. This objective was set in the Environment Strategy. Interviewed by IPN, Mariana Goras, deputy division head at the Ministry of Education, said the Ministry took a number of actions in this respect and the school curriculum includes enough subjects teaching students to protect the environment.
The education and training of people must be an indispensable element of the public policies concerning environment protection and sustainable development. Mariana Goras said the school education system lays emphasis on the protection of the environment by maintaining the own state of health and the health of those around.
Ecology is taught at mandatory and optimal lessons and within out-of-school activities. In primary and secondary education, they study “Man and the Environment”, while in lyceums “Ecological Education”, “Protection of the Environment”, and “Education for Health”. There are also such optional subjects as “We and the Nature, “A Healthy Lifestyle”, and “Chemistry for Health”.
According to Mariana Goras, the Ministry of Education, in concert with the Ministry of the Environment, organizes ecological hours to mark important data for ecology. When the school curriculum is reviewed, stress will be placed on developing student abilities, including in the area of environment protection. The ecology hours will be removed from the program and the students will be able to address issues related to biodiversity at different subjects, including math, French and Romanian.
