Students of the Ungheni Border Guards College from February will take a new optional course titled Refugees’ Rights within the UNHCR Regional Protection Support Project, Info-Prim Neo reports. The course was launched on February 15 and is run by the Lawyers’ Legal Center that is a partner NGO in the implementation of the project of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Moldova. The lessons will be taught during a year to students of the Police Academy “Stefan cel Mare” as well. “The subject Refugees’ Rights will contribute to the professional formation of our students, who will work in the future at border crossing points in different settlements of Moldova. We thank the Representative Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Moldova for this nice initiative,” said the College’s head Dumitru Tugulea. Project coordinator Marin Roman said the final objective is to allow the asylum seekers and refugees to benefit from protection and assistance in the process of tackling large migration flows. The project includes activities in Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine. It was launched in April 2009 and is to be implemented during two years. The budget for Moldova is €400 000.
