Students learn culture and traditions of coexisting ethnic groups
The fourth festival “We are stronger by art” brought together students from 16 high schools of Chisinau and its suburbs. Held yearly, the contest is aimed at promoting the traditions of different ethnic groups living in Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The festival is organized by the Adolescents Center of the Chisinau General Division of Education, Youth and Sport and the Local Children’s and Youth’ Council. “The high schools involved teach some of the subjects in the national language of the coexisting ethnic groups. We have Russians, Jews, Bulgarians, Ukrainians, Roma, Tatars, Chechens, Byelorussians and other ethnics. We also have national lyceums. We want to teach the teens of different ethnic groups to appreciate the values of the peoples living in the municipality of Chisinau,” said the head of the Adolescents Center Valentina Sandu.
The participants in the festival present by a performance of music and a choreographic performance. This year, the program included a presentation of the traditions of a Moldovan wedding, staged by students of the Theoretical High School “Nicolae Balcescu”.
The performance, artistic value and costume parade will be assessed by a jury composed of representatives of the Ministry of Youth and Sport, the Interethnic Relations Bureau and creation centers of the municipality.
The festival is taking place on March 29-30. The event includes a scientific conference themed “Different, but alike” where there will be presented short multimedia films about the preuniversity institutions and youth associations and the development of intercultural relations.
