The documentary film in the Republic of Moldova and not only suffers because of the limited budgets planned for development. The Ministry of Culture promises to contribute to the creation of a cinematographic fund that would support national film production. The current stage of the documentary film in the country was discussed in a conference that started today in Chisinau, IPN reports.

Minister of Culture Sergiu Prodan, as a fiction film director, admitted that the documentary is at the basis of cinematography, noting that filmmaking can exist without fiction film, not yet without documentary. He assured that he will be making effort for picture making in Moldova to recover and will create a cinematography fund.

National Cinematography Center director Valentina Iusuphodjaev said things develop slower if they are not done in a partnership. Such events like today’s conference are first of all for young people who should communicate with filmmakers from the country and from all over the world as the film represents communication.

Vasili Braga, manager of the COR Creative Industries Association of Moldova, said the next step that needs to be taken is to find methods to export production and to distribute, but the country should have the necessary capacities and inspiration to understand the entered markets.

University lecturer Vladimir Druc, head of the Multimedia Department of the Academy of Music, Theater and Plastic Arts, said that he has expected for 30 years for things in national cinematography to improve, but national identity is lost in political struggles. During his four-year studies at the Department he heads, he devoted a year to the documentary film as he believes that the young generation should have art immunity.

The conference entitled “Let’s go with Doc” will continue on September 30.
