Students and relatives of Moldovans from diaspora to travel to Athens together with PM

Students and relatives of Moldovans from the diaspora will fly to Athens on April 28, together with Prime Minister Iurie Leanca, to take part in the event “Without Visas in the EU”, IPN reports. The event will take place on the very first day from which the Moldovans will be able to travel visa-free in the Schengen Area. Greece was chosen as a destination for this event because it holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union.

According to a communiqué from the Government, the delegation that will fly to Athens will consist of 25 university students who are winners of the contest “Be the first to fly to Europe visa-free”, which was organized by the Government and the national public broadcaster “Teleradio-Moldova”, and of six school students who won Olympiads, selected by the Ministry of Education. The delegation will also include over 20 relatives of Moldovans who are abroad. They were chosen by the associations from the diaspora.

The event organized in the Greek capital will also involve Head of Parliament Igor Corman, Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Pirkka Tapiola, and MEP Monica Macovei, who heads the cooperation committee with Moldova. The event will be attended by more than 100 people, over 30 of whom journalists.

The plane will take off from the Chisinau International Airport in the morning of April 28. The program includes visits to the Parthenon Temple and the Acropolis and a tour of the historical center.

The decision to abolish the visa requirements for Moldovans was published in the Official Journal of the European Union on April 20 and will take effect on April 28, 2014.
