The dormitories of the State University of Moldova (USM) must undergo extensive repair works, Prime Minister Vlad Filat said after visiting some of them on Saturday, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The dorms located on Gh. Casu St were built in the 1950-1960s. Maintenance works are performed, but extensive repair works are needed in order to create modern living conditions for the students and increase the number of places in dormitories. There will be erected attic-like rooms and the buildings will be thermally insulated. I visited only several dorms of the USM, but formed a general impression,” Vlad Filat told the journalists. The Premier said that the reconstruction of the dorms will be partially financed from the state budget. The other costs will be covered by private companies interested in the plots owned by the State University. They will be allowed to use the land in exchange for repairing the dorms,” he explained. In another development, Vlad Filat said all the dorms of the national universities and colleges are planned to be outfitted with computer rooms. At the end of the visit, the Premier told the press that life in the dormitory seemed interesting to him, adding he has many nice memories of the time he was a student. He said he even entered the building through the window once. Thus, he called on the dorm managers to allow the students to enter the dorms after the closing hour.
