Strong wind blacks out several settlements
The strong wind observed the territory of the country on Tuesday and Wednesday knocked down a number of pillars and high voltage lines, causing power failure in 22 settlements, mainly in central Moldova.
According to the Department for Emergency Situations (DSE), the majority of the villages and towns that suffered were situated in Cimislia (7). In Nisporeni raion 5 villages were left without electicity, in Cahul - 4 villages, and in Drochia, Calarasi and Ialoveni – 2.
Partly, power supply was disrupted in 6 settlements in Edinet and Hancesti raions.
The windy weather damaged several farms too. In Bardar, Ialoveni raion, the wind damaged the roofs of 12 houses and of the local school. The estimated damage reaches MDL 116.000.
In Floritoaia Veche, Ungheni raion, the wind damaged the roofs of two houses and the roof the administrative office of the local stadium.
The gymnasium and the lyceum in Bumbata (Ungheni), and Corten, (Taraclia), also suffered from the wind, the damage being estimated at MDL 4 thousand.
At the same time, the firemen and rescuers in Ungheni had to fight the consequences of the strong wind that had damaged even the roof of their quarters.
According to the Department for Emergency Situations, in order to re-establish the power supply in all the settlements, 27 squads with 91 persons were mobilised.
