Moldovan Prime Minister Valeriu Strelets today has met with US Congressman Steve Chabot on his one-day visit to Moldova. The congressman, who is also the chairman of the House Small Business Committee and member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, has reiterated the United States' support to Moldova on its European path, reconfirming the availability of his country to endorse projects to build roads and irrigation systems, to modernize agriculture and to diversify energy sources.

Valeriu Strelets highlighted the importance of continuing and deepening the strategic dialogue with the United States started in 2014. This would include resuming the work of the joint Committee on Trade and Economic Cooperation and of the Working Group for Energy Cooperation.

Strelets also reiterated the necessity of continuing the second MCC compact for Moldova. “We count on the support of the United States to improve Moldova's energy efficiency and security. We seek to implement joint projects to diversify energy resources in our country, to promote Moldovan products on the US market, and to draw American investment into the Moldovan economy”.

Steve Chabot was in Chisinau as part of a tour that also includes Latvia, Hungary and Estonia. The congressman also met with President Nicolae Timofti.
