Strelet Government dismissed

The Cabinet headed by Lib-Dem Valeriu Strelet was dismissed by a majority of votes in the October 29 sitting of Parliament. The no-confidence motion submitted by the Socialist and Communist MPs was also supported by the Democratic lawmakers, by 65 votes overall. The Liberal-Democratic MPs voted against, while the Liberal lawmakers and the unaffiliated MPs of the Leanca group abstained, IPN reports.

Before the motion was put to the vote, in his last speech Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet said the alliance partners speak about arguments and make accusations, but in fact make effort to conserve the system. Today’s vote is a test for the present and future of Moldova and for the country’s European course. They will decide inside the party what to do next.

Strelet also denied Democrats’ accusations that he is behind the protests staged by the Platform “Dignity and Truth”.

The Government headed by Valeriu Strelet was invested on July 30, 2015 by the votes of 52 MPs of the Liberal Democratic Party, the Democratic Party and the Liberal Party. Then, the Socialist and Communist MPs voted against, while unaffiliated MPs Iurie Leanca, Eugen Carpov and Nicolae Juravschi abstained.
