Street vending of meat and milk has been banned in Chisinau

New permits for street vending of meat and dairy products will be no longer issued in Chisinau, as acting mayor Ruslan Codreanu also promises to withdraw current ones, IPN reports.

During the City Hall’s ordinary meeting today, Codreanu cited safety reasons for the ban. He also said the practice causes sidewalk-clogging, especially in the districts of Buiucani and Rîșcani, where street selling is more widespread.

“I will demand that the permits be revoked regardless of who issued them, the district heads or their deputies. I have also asked the police to intervene”, said Codreanu.

Rîșcani district head Nicolae Balaur says that very often such vendors don’t have any permits at all. Only one such permit was issued over the entire last year, said Balaur, calling on members of the public to refrain from buying produce from costermongers.

Buiucani deputy district head Vadim Brînzaniuc said three temporary permits were issued for meat carts and four others for diary carts, but promised the “problem will be dealt with soon
