The Chisinau City Hall will initiate the procedure for naming a street or a cultural institution in the capital city Mihai Volontir in memory of the actor and in gratitude for his incontestable contribution to the national culture, IPN reports.
In a message of condolence, Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca says that Mihai Volontir devoted his entire life to theater and filmmaking and was for everyone a model of humanity, modesty and generosity.
“I felt a deep sadness when I found out about the death of Mihai Volontir. The artist’s death represents a big loss for all the residents of Chisinau municipality and of Moldova as well. The great actor Mihai Volontir will remain in the memory of those who admired and loved him as a symbol of the national theater and film. The master gained our sympathy by his talent and charisma, by his elegance, vitality and skillful performance on the stage and in films,” reads the message.
Mihai Volontir died in the intensive care section of the National Clinical Hospital last night. He suffered from chronic diseases that became more acute during the last few months. The actor turned 81 on March 9. He held the title of People’s Artist and the Order of the Republic, which is the highest state award. In 2000, the master was named the best actor of the 20th century in the Moldovan cinematography.
