Stray dogs hunted out of Chisinau are now all over Ciorescu landfill

The stray dogs that have been hunted out of the streets of Chisinau are now wandering around the dumps in the suburban town of Ciorescu, the Mayor of this settlement, Constantin Scripnic told the City Hall meeting on Thursday, July 5 Scripnic said that both the local authorities of Ciorescu and its residents are disturbed by the animal shelter located near the village. In his words, the animals brought from all over the city are kept for several days in the shelter for sterilisation and then are set free. That is why the dumps are daily populated by 10-12 dogs. The head of the animal shelter in Ciorescu is the German journalist Crista Schechtl. The shelter is endowed with special kitchen, garden for walks, special areas for dogs and cats, a centre for the sterilisation of animals. At present, the new administration of the municipality of Chisinau did not announce about the actions that it will undertake against the tramp dogs. The persons in charge from the Sanitation Management said recently that they do not kill the dogs, they only catch and set them free outside the city. The former administration of Chisinau announced at the beginning of the year that it located two sites for future shelters for stray dogs and it planned to announce a contest to select the organisations interested in building the facilities. The local authorities did not make any official statements about those two sites so far.
