A stray dog sterilization center was opened in Chisinau. According to acting mayor of Chisinau Ruslan Codreanu, about 1,000 dogs will be neutered during the next six months, IPN reports.
The center has a veterinarian office. The sterilized dogs will receive post-surgery care during three-seven days and will be then set free. The center’s capacity is 50-70 animals a week.
“Next year, we plan to extend the veterinarian office that is outfitted with modern equipment and to create an electronic register of animals,” stated Ruslan Codreanu. He called on the citizens, volunteers and NGOs to become involved in the process of neutering animals and in information campaigns on stray dogs.
Eugen Axentiev, head of the cleanup company “Autosalubritate”, said that a stray dog hunting service was created together with the equipment of the center. In November, employees of the service will be trained by foreign specialists. The stray dogs will be caught with modern pneumatic devices.
The first dog sterilized at the center will be taken to the yard of the Chisinau City Hall for guarding this. Accruing to Ruslan Codreanu, by this gesture they aim to encourage the citizen to adopt stray dogs that had been neutered.
The municipality of Chisinau invested about 400,000 lei of municipal funds in the outfitting of the center.
