The women and young people benefit the least from the right to take part in management and decision-making at community level. In order to remove this shortcoming in Straseni district, the Women’s Association “Initiativa” implemented a project titled “Women and Young People – Active in Community” in five settlements. The project included awareness-raising activities, meetings, cultural-educative events, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to a communiqué from the Association, the first activity was launched in Vorniceni, where the local council consists of 15 councilmen older than 30. The acting mayor of Vorniceni Vasile Tofan said the involvement of the women and young people in the local decision-making process will be a major objective for the village. Another activity themed “Women can succeed” was organized by the Straseni Initiative Group in concert with volunteers of the Association “Cultura Noua” (“New Culture”) and the Straseni School of Arts. An awareness-raising event was staged in Lozova village. It involved artists of the high school and women who were informed about the necessity of taking part in decision-making. Another cultural-educative event was mounted by the Tataresti Initiative Group. The local women received diplomas and flours. The project was financed by the United States Agency for International Development and the Academy for Educational Development.
