Straseni district may remain without drinking water, says its president Nicolae Robu. He told a news conference on Monday that the district council had been recently announced about halting the running water pipe project, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to Nicolae Robu, in September 2008, the Straseni district council, after long talks with the central power, got the finances from the National Ecologic Fund to re-establish the water sources from Micauti village, idle for 12 years, and the artesian wells in the town. “2.99 million lei, initially granted, were spent successfully, and then the district council was announced of having won the second stage of the project worth 9.655 million lei,” said Nicolae Robu. Later on February 3, this year, Ecology Minister Violeta Ivanov sent us a letter informing us the works have been halted. “The invoked reasons were that we had not presented the project of executing the works and that we were not present at signing the contract with the National Ecologic Fund,” said Larisa Postica, the head of the economy division of the Straseni district council. “We consider the matter is sooner a political issue, not an economic one. It's a critical situation, it's not the citizens' fault and we must seek a solution,” said the president of the Straseni district. “We consider these are some informal reasons, since the project was submitted and registered and we were informed about allocating the money in December, 2008. We should be officially notified about signing the contract,” he said. The projection works were to start shortly. The district council hopes the water will reach the Straseni town consumers later in April.
