Straseni district head denies his car’s involvement in defacing PLDM office and posters
The head of Straseni district Nicolae Robu, who resigned for the period of the election campaign, denies that his car was involved in vandalizing the election posters and office of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) in Chisinau. The electoral candidate of the Moldova Noastra Alliance (AMN), who is written under No.14 in the list, said the images presented by the police as proofs are forgeries, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The PLDM head office located on Bucharest Street was daubed with yellow paint on March 31. According to the Ministry of the Interior, the act of vandalism was committed by five unidentified persons that used a Toyota car with the license number BL CW 388 belonging to Nicolae Robu. On the same day, the news agency Omega broadcast amateur images of the given car. Other televisions rebroadcast the images. According to Omega, the car driven by Robu’s son Vitalie was involved in defacing an election poster of the PLDM and the party’s office. The video images were used by the police as evidence.
Nicolae Robu told a news conference on April 2 that neither he nor his sons was involved in this case. “Why should I send my son to Chisinau to commit acts of vandalism? I could pay about 400 lei for another car or take the car of my brother-in-law, not use my car,” Robu said.
The AMN candidate said that the car in the image was not his even if it had the same license number and was of the same model. According to Robu, the license number was counterfeit, while the filmed car has another shade of color and was produced in a different year. To support his statements, Nicolae Robu showed the images presented by Omega and images of his car as well as his car parked in front of the AMN office.
Nicolae Robu said that his family was in danger as it was being shadowed. His two sons hide as they are afraid of being arrested. Robu considers that the move was aimed at damaging his image in the election campaign and said he would sue the news agency.
