Alexandr Stoianoglo proposed to his opponent in the presidential election, Maia Sandu, to sign a declaration in which she would commit to recognizing the election results if she loses. In turn, Stoianoglo declared that, if he does not win, he pledges not to call on his supporters to protest, according to IPN.

The proposal was made during Sunday’s electoral debate, organized for the second round of the presidential election on November 3. The debates took place without a moderator, with the two candidates asking each other questions.

Maia Sandu stated that massive fraud took place during the first round of the election, and that these must be prevented in the second round. She believes that it is important for both her opponent, as well as the country's leadership and all citizens, to make efforts to ensure that the elections are free and that voters' votes are not bought.

"As president, I have responsibility for this country. We respect the law. You do not. Those who support you, those who fund you, do not respect the law. Where have you seen votes being bought and attempts made to undermine the sovereign vote of the citizens?" Maia Sandu asked rhetorically. The PAS candidate added that citizens want their vote to be protected, and that both candidates have this obligation.

In response, Alexandr Stoianoglo said he did not understand what kind of illegal campaign funding Maia Sandu was referring to. He maintained that, in fact, he ran a modest and honest electoral campaign.
