New points for monitoring road traffic in Chisinau

New road traffic surveillance cameras will be set up in Chisinau, at the intersection of the streets Băcioii Noi with Dacia and Alba Iulia with Liviu Deleanu. Video cameras will also be installed at the exist of Stăuceni commune, on Șoseaua Muncești St and at the exit of Chisinau towards Băcioi St.

Director of the Ministry of the Interior’s Information Technology Service Andrian Șova has told IPN that the places where last-generation cameras will be placed were chosen in coordination with the National Patrolling Inspectorate and these witness a larger number of traffic accidents. The cameras will record violations during the day and at night, such as disregard for road markings and ignoring of stoplights. On Șoseaua Muncești St, there are two video surveillance points so that the average speed on a segment of several kilometers could be measured.

Andrian Șova said the video cameras in the future could also record movement in the opposite direction and illegal parking and would enable to monitor sidewalks. A sum of 8 million lei will be allocated from the Service’s budget for installing equipment.

In the municipality of Chisinau, the over 40 zones for monitoring road traffic work in proportion of 92-95%. As regards the video cameras on national roads, the authorities estimate these could become functional next year.
