Stepuleac brothers seek Prosecutor General’s dismissal

The Stepuleac brothers continue to demand that the Prosecutor General Valeriu Gurbulea be dismissed. At a news conference on Friday, the brothers’ lawyer Ana Ursachi spoke about the ‘secret arms’ used by the Prosecutor General’s Office to manipulate the people and about the violations committed by the prosecutor, Info-Prim Neo reports. ”The Stepuleac brothers’ case is minor compared with the cases started by the Prosecutor General’s Office by order of the senior authorities,” the lawyer said. “There are no bodies in Moldova able to collect proofs to make real charges. About 70% of the cases are shaped by the Ministry of the Interior and the Prosecutor’s Office.” She also said that the cases involving employees of the law enforcement bodies, mainly their administration, are ignored or closed. No police officer was punished after the April 7 events. Speaking about Valeriu Gurbulea, Ana Ursachi said that he ordered the reopening of closed cases without additional proofs and the opening of cases at the suggestion of the head of state, ignored petitions, etc. “The Prosecutor’s Office uses Soviet-type methods for instituting legal proceedings, as for instance in the cases against Pasat (Valeriu Pasat, the former minister of defense), Urecheanu (Serafim Urecheanu, the leader of the AMN and former mayor of Chisinau), Sarban (Vladimir Sarban, the head of Centru district and former secretary of the Chisinau Council) and many ordinary persons,” the lawyer said, adding that they have evidence that nothing is done without the involvement of the head of state. Ana Ursachi considers that the Prosecutor General’s Office lost credibility and can recover its image only by changing all the heads, especially the Prosecutor General.
