Several organizations celebrated on Monday, January 10, the 536th anniversary of the battle of Podul Inalt (High Bridge), also known as the battle of Vaslui, Info-Prim Neo reports. Nicolae Pascaru, president of NGO Scutul Moldovenesc (Moldovan Shield) and one of event’s organizers, said the battle of Vaslui was one of Moldovan people’s greatest victories ever. Next year, they plan a trip to the former battlefield in Romania. The event took place within the Metropolitan Cathedral Square. The youth that participated consider January 10 a very important date and wish the whole country knew about it. Some of them even wore military clothes like Stephen the Great’s soldiers, trying to create a medieval atmosphere. Most of the passersby did not know about the significance of this date, why the people gathered in the Cathedral Square or why the church offered divine service. After the meeting in the Square, most of the participants laid flowers at the monument of Stephen the Great and Holy. Besides, they organized an exhibition of old Moldovan coats of arms. The battle of Podul Inalt was fought on January 10, 1475. Stephen the Great and his army, though greatly outnumbered, defeated the Ottomans led by Suleiman Pasha.
