Stepaniuc’s application over PNL rejected
The Constitutional Court Thursday rejected the application filed by independent candidate Victor Stepaniuc, who challenged the constitutionality of the National Liberal Party (PNL), Info-Prim Neo reports.
The head of the Court’s press service Dumitru Tara told Info-Prim Neo that under the Code of Constitutional Jurisdiction an application that disputes the constitutionality of a party can be lodged by the President of Moldova, Head of Parliament, Minister of Justice, Prosecutor General and by Government Decision. An MP cannot challenge such an issue in Court.
Victor Stepaniuc considers that the National Liberal Party must be declared unconstitutional and outlawed because it openly propagates the liquidation of Moldova’s sovereignty and independence.
In his application, the MP invoked Article 41, paragraph 4 of the Constitution, which says that the parties and other sociopolitical organizations that argue against political pluralism, the principles of the state of law, Moldova’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity are unconstitutional. Another article invoked – Article 32, paragraph 3 of the Constitution – says that the disputing and defaming of the state and the people are banned and punished by law.
